Green Globe.

The Green Globe International Standard for Sustainable Tourism has been developed over decades of research and development and is the original Standard for hotels, resorts, conference centres and attractions.

Green Globe is an internationally renowned programme that provides certification for sustainable operations and management of hospitality businesses, which traces its roots back to the Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit in 1992. Green Globe provides certification in 94 countries worldwide.

The Green Globe Standard offers companies an industry-tailored framework to comprehensively evaluate achievements in the field of sustainability based on the four pillars: Sustainable Management, Social / Economic, Cultural Heritage and Environment.

They developed the first International Standard for Sustainable Travel and Tourism in 1998. Today, the standard consists of 44 criteria and over 380 indicators. It includes mandatory criteria and businesses need to achieve a compliance score of at least 51% of all applicable criteria to secure certification.

Green Globe is an affiliate member of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and the Green Globe Standard is recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

Ready to go?

As one of Green Globe’s international team of accredited auditors, Maddy can help you achieve this status once you are registered as a member. Members are audited when they have uploaded the required information to the Green Globe Solutions portal, which you have a year to complete. Then you can request me as your auditor for an on-site audit before gaining certification. Audits take place annually alternating between on-site and deskside.
