Tabacon joins SLH’s Considerate Collection.

Tabacon Thermal Resort and Spa in Costa Rica is one of 26 founding members of Small Luxury Hotels of the World’s new Considerate Collection. The luxury brand describes the collection as ‘a community of actively sustainable luxury hotels going the extra eco mile and proving that luxury is compatible with longevity’.

Tabacon is a resort that has always been firmly rooted in sustainable practices, having been created by the pioneering vision of owner Jamie Mikowski in the early 1990s. He rewilded 900 acres of pastureland in sight of the Arenal volcano and brought it back to life as a tropical rainforest that is home to it’s own renewed eco-system. Guests don’t have to venture far to immerse themselves in the natural environment while staying here, and can do so quite literally bathing in one of the 18 thermal pools that meander through the resort, absorbing not only the sounds of nature but also the revitalising minerals.

Tabacon’s goal is to create memorable experiences that have an environmental and social sense, and their annual Sustainability Report details the many ways they are ensuring that tourism plays a positive role for the destination and in the lives of their community.

Costa Rica as a country has managed to implement one of the most advanced environment protection systems in the world . In November the Republic was awarded the Earthshot prize for Protecting & Restoring Nature which will enable them to bring their approach to the rest of the world and share knowledge, best-practice and Pura Vida with us all.
