Sustainability Starts at Home.
As with everything, we need to practice what we preach. If you’re thinking about taking steps towards climate neutrality with your business but haven’t made any similar changes in your home life then you may need to think about whether you’re doing this for the right reasons.
According to the United Nation’s ‘epochal’ new report published on 9th August, climate scientists say that “it is unequivocal that human influence has warmed the atmosphere, ocean and land” in a document that has been described as “a code red for humanity,” by Antonio Guterres, the UN’s secretary-general.
I think we all underestimate the impact that changing our day to day habits can have if we make seemingly small switches at home. The scale of a groundswell movement has incredible potential to really shift the needle - both in terms of overall emissions and the people power to influence consumerism in a positive direction.
While most of us are pretty mindful these days about recycling, reducing waste and renewable energy solutions, Katrina at Spark Joy London has put together a brilliant checklist of switches we can all consider making and may not have thought about. She’s also done the hard work and discovered some innovative brands that are championing lifestyle choices with a conscience, from the best shampoo bar brands to colour pens for kids made from recycled plastic. And when an item has served it’s purpose, there is also a section on her website dedicated to how to responsibly dispose of things like medicines, electronics, and even contact lenses.
Let’s make sure we are contributing every day, and really walking the talk.
